Bengal Orders Fresh Verification of Caste Certificates

MP, June 12, 2026, Kolkata: Nadiar Chand Bauri, Minister of State (MoS) for the Backward Classes Welfare Department, warned of stern action against officers who are found to have been instrumental in issuing fake caste certificates during the rule of the previous TMC government.
The state government has ordered a complete re-verification of all Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates issued since 2011, including those distributed through Duare Sarkar camps.
The minister also told the media that he has already instructed officials to quickly identify fake certificates.
He further alleged that there was a massive scam involving fake caste certificates, stating that it was carried out due to political pressure.
Action will be taken against officials found involved in the incident.
The BJP government in the state has taken a zero-tolerance approach against corruption, and culprits will be booked.
