Suvendu Adhikari says BJP government will work to fulfil poll promises in Bengal

PTI, May 9, 2026, Kolkata : After his name was announced as the leader of the BJP legislature party by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Bengal Chief Minister-elect Suvendu Adhikari, in his address at the New Town Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Friday, said the first BJP government in the state would deliver the promises made in the party’s election manifesto.

He said that the BJP does not believe in words; it only believes in delivering through action.

Adhikari also said that the state government would work in coordination with the Centre to realise the aspirations of the people.

He said the atmosphere of fear in Bengal had ended and asserted that the state would now move towards an era of “trust”.

“The people of Bengal have given us a historic mandate. We will fulfil all the promises made in the BJP’s poll manifesto in Bengal. Our main motto is ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Bikash’. Bhoi (fear) is out and, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has said,” Adhikari said amid loud cheers from the BJP’s winning candidates and supporters.

“We will try our best to fulfil all the responsibilities people of Bengal have given to us,” he added.

Earlier in the day, the senior BJP leader was unanimously elected the leader of the BJP legislature party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the party’s top state leadership, paving the way for him to become the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Stressing the need for coordination between the Centre and the new BJP government in the state, Adhikari said: “Let the Centre and the state work together to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bengal.”

Adhikari also gave the credit for the BJP’s spectacular victory in Bengal to the party workers who fought against all odds.

He also gave due credit to state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya.
