RPF returns bag containing jewellery, Rs 3.27 lakh cash to owner
The bag was spotted on Platform No. 1 at Bandel Railway Station shortly after the departure of the Sealdah–Ballia Express on May 3.
Alert RPF personnel secured the unattended baggage and launched efforts to trace its owner.
Using the Rail Madad digital platform, the RPF identified the owner as Aasha Bhagat, a resident of Bhadreswar in Hooghly district, and contacted her.
After verification at the Bandel RPF post, the bag was handed over to Bhagat.
Railway officials said the luggage contained gold and silver jewellery, cash and other personal belongings.
The recovery was carried out under Eastern Railway’s “Operation Amanat” initiative, aimed at tracing and returning lost belongings to passengers.
Officials said the operation was conducted under the supervision of Amiya Nandan Sinha, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Eastern Railway.
Shibram Majhi, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway, urged passengers to remain vigilant while assuring them that the RPF maintains round-the-clock surveillance across the railway network.
