RG Kar Case Witness Moves Calcutta High Court Alleging Post-Poll Vandalism
Sanjib Mukherjee, who claimed to be a prosecution witness in the rape and murder case, sought urgent intervention from the court seeking protection.
The matter was mentioned before the single bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya.
During the mentioning, Mukherjee’s counsel reportedly submitted that his client had faced intimidation and damage to his property following the declaration of the election results.
The lawyer further contended that Mukherjee had deposed as a prosecution witness in the high-profile RG Kar case, in which civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sealdah court earlier this year.
Justice Bhattacharyya, however, declined to grant an immediate hearing on the oral plea.
The court directed the petitioner to formally file the matter and serve copies on the concerned parties.
The judge observed that the case would be taken up according to the regular roster and serial listing of matters before the court.
The development comes days after the victim’s mother, who had emerged as a prominent face during the protests seeking justice, was elected to the Panihati Assembly on a BJP ticket.
