Flat Row: Saayoni Ghosh Says Apartment Belongs to Another Couple

MP, May 22, 2026, Kolkata : Trinamool Congress leader Saayoni Ghosh on Wednesday sought to clear the air over the controversy surrounding a flat at 19B, 7 Tanks Lane in Kolkata, which was allegedly being linked to party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and herself.

In a detailed statement posted on X, Saayoni claimed that officials from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s building department visited the premises and found that the apartment belonged to another couple - a private sector employee named Abhishek Bandhopadhaya and his wife, school teacher Sayani Ghosh.

According to her, the couple had purchased the flat jointly three years ago and produced valid ownership documents during the inspection.

She said the residents fully cooperated with KMC officials and the local police during the verification process but were deeply upset over the “speculation and smear campaign” that dragged both the residents and the two TMC leaders into public controversy because of similarities in their names.

Describing the developments as a “media trial” and an example of “vendetta politics”, Saayoni alleged that the issue was deliberately amplified to tarnish the personal and professional image of both her and Abhishek Banerjee.

She further claimed that the online harassment and political attacks surrounding the matter were unnecessary and misleading.

The controversy had triggered political debate and widespread social media discussions after allegations surfaced regarding the ownership of the Kolkata flat.

However, Saayoni maintained that the accusations were baseless and rooted in political motivations.

Ending her statement with the phrase “Satyamev Jayate!”, the TMC leader asserted that the truth had now emerged publicly.
