During the meeting, all personnel were thoroughly briefed on their duties and responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the integrity of the democratic process. The core objective outlined was to create an environment where every citizen can exercise their right to vote without fear or pressure. Clear instructions were issued to ensure that polling remains completely free from violence, intimidation, or any form of coercion. Authorities stressed that inducements of any kind must be strictly prevented, and that practices such as bogus voting, booth capturing, or any attempt to disrupt polling stations will not be tolerated. Special attention was also given to preventing “source jamming,” ensuring that voters are not obstructed from leaving their homes or localities to cast their votes. Furthermore, it was firmly reiterated that no government official, regardless of rank or role, should be directly or indirectly involved in any political activity.
Last week security preparations, efforts to strengthen voter awareness and participation were also actively reviewed. Officials from the Election Commission of India, including Deputy Director Apurva Kumar Singh and Senior Video Editor Ranjeet Srivastava associated with the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, visited Kalimpong to assess ongoing outreach initiatives. Their visit focused on evaluating programmes designed to educate voters and encourage greater electoral participation.

As part of this review, the team inspected activities conducted under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme across Kalimpong town, Algarah, and Lava. They engaged directly with local residents, spreading awareness about the importance of voting and encouraging informed participation in the democratic process. The visit began with a detailed review meeting at the District Magistrate’s office, where senior officials, including Additional District Magistrate Sudipta Das, joined discussions on strengthening voter outreach and ensuring effective communication strategies.
Altogether, the day’s events reflected a coordinated effort by administrative, security, and election authorities to uphold democratic values, promote voter awareness, and ensure that the electoral process in Kalimpong is conducted in a transparent, inclusive, and peaceful manner.
