Were you sleeping so far ? Mamata slams ED summons of TMC ministers ahead of polls

MP, Kolkata, April 4, 2026 – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned two outgoing Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers, Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh, in connection with the municipal recruitment corruption case. Bose is scheduled to appear on April 6, and Ghosh on April 8.

Reacting to the summons at an election rally in North Dinajpur, TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee criticised the timing, saying: “Elections are around the corner and the agencies have started summoning one TMC candidate after another. What were you doing all these years? Were you sleeping? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?”

This follows a similar ED summons earlier to Debasish Kumar, TMC candidate from Rashbehari and Member-Mayor-in-Council (Parks & Squares) at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, over alleged illegal land-grabbing and investment fraud. Kumar complied with the summons on Monday and again on Friday.

The case emerged during a search operation at the residence and office of promoter Ayan Shil, who is allegedly linked to the teacher recruitment scam. While the ED is investigating the municipal recruitment case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also initiated a parallel probe.

The summons have sparked political controversy, with elections just weeks away, raising questions about whether Bose and Ghosh will comply on the scheduled dates or seek additional time.

This development adds to mounting pre-election tensions in West Bengal, with multiple TMC leaders facing scrutiny from central agencies amid the campaign period.
