Civilian safety concerns grow as grieving family seeks accountability after deadly explosion in Bishnupur district

Aseem Bhakta Singh, KalimNews, Imphal, April 12, 2026 : In a deeply heartbreaking account of the deadly blast at Moirang Tronglaobi in Bishnupur District, Oinam Binita, the mother of two minor children who lost their lives in the bomb attack, has shared the final moments before the tragedy that devastated her family.

Recalling the night of April 7, Oinam Binita said the explosion took place around 1:30 am while her children were asleep in her arms. “They knew nothing and slept peacefully,” she said, her voice heavy with grief, describing the loss as something she can never recover from.

She further stated that amid the confusion and chaos following the blast, her younger child became unresponsive, adding to the unbearable trauma of that horrific moment.

Oinam Binita also shared that her husband, who serves in the Border Security Force (BSF), was away on duty at the time of the incident. She said the family had felt a sense of safety due to the presence of security forces in the area. “We slept believing that his fellow security forces would protect us,” she stated.

The incident occurred in a locality that has been witnessing heightened tension in recent weeks amid ongoing unrest in Manipur. The tragic death of the two children has intensified public concern over the safety of civilians, especially in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas.

The tragedy has triggered widespread anger among local residents, who have raised serious concerns over alleged security lapses and are demanding accountability from the authorities. In her grief, Binita referred to her children as “martyrs,” and vowed to continue her fight for justice until those responsible are brought to account.

Imphal, April 12, 2026 : The Government of Manipur has extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services, including VPN access, in five districts for an additional two days starting from 2:00 pm on April 12.

The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur.

According to the Home Department, the decision was taken after a review of the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Authorities cited concerns over the possible spread of misinformation and the potential mobilisation of unrest through social media platforms as key reasons behind the extension.

While mobile internet services remain suspended, broadband connectivity continues to be conditionally restored in accordance with earlier government orders.

The directive, issued under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, also cautions that any violation of the order will invite legal action as per applicable laws.
