District Administration Office, Kapilvastu enforced restrictive orders in parts of Maharajgunj municipality on Saturday for an indefinite period.
A group of Hindus observing Navaratri festival were reciting bhajans in the Bargadwa area of Maharajgunj municipality when a group of Muslims celebrating Eid opposed it, saying the music was too loud for them, police said.
The friction resulted in a clash between the two groups and, as the clash turned violent, injuring half a dozen people, the police said they used a baton charge and threw tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
The local administration soon imposed restrictive orders to prevent the situation from further worsening. As per the restrictive order, any type of mass gathering, demonstration and rally were prohibited from 2 pm onward till further notice.
