Indra Hang Subba Highlights Transformational Development in Sikkim and Northeast; Commends : Leadership and Governance Initiatives in Lok Sabha

PIB, New Delhi, 23rd March, 2026 : Shri Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament from Sikkim, has highlighted today in the Lok Sabha the transformative changes witnessed in Sikkim and the Northeast region of the country over the years under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, particularly in the areas of connectivity, infrastructure, governance, and inclusive development.

Shri Subba expressed pride in representing Sikkim, describing it as a small yet proud state nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. He conveyed a deep sense of gratitude, pride, and reverence for the leadership that, he stated, has brought about significant transformation across the nation.

Recalling the earlier challenges faced by the people of Sikkim, Shri Subba noted that not long ago, reaching the state involved long and arduous journeys through mountainous terrain. He stated that Sikkim often remained cut off from the rest of the country for extended periods, particularly during emergencies, thereby posing serious challenges to connectivity and timely access to essential services.

Highlighting the progress made in recent years, Shri Subba underscored that the establishment of Pakyong Airport, the first airport in Sikkim, has been a landmark achievement in improving connectivity to the state. He noted that this development has significantly reduced travel time and enhanced accessibility, thereby facilitating economic growth and improving the quality of life of the people.

Describing the developments as part of a broader journey of public service and governance, Shri Subba referred to the long tenure in public life of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, noting that it reflects sustained commitment and dedication to nation-building. He highlighted that the Prime Minister’s extensive experience in governance has contributed to consistent and focused policy implementation.

Shri Subba further pointed out that the Northeast region has emerged as a focal area in the Government’s development agenda under the leadership of Shri Modi. He stated that the Prime Minister has made more than 70 visits to the region, demonstrating continued engagement and commitment to its progress. According to him, this sustained attention has led to enhanced infrastructure development, improved connectivity, and greater integration of the Northeast with the rest of the country.

Emphasizing the importance of inclusive development, Shri Subba noted that the Government has taken several initiatives aimed at ensuring that remote and border regions are not left behind in the development process. He stated that these efforts have helped in unlocking the vast potential of the Northeast and have brought the region closer to the national mainstream.

The Member of Parliament also highlighted that improved connectivity, both physical and digital, has played a crucial role in driving development in Sikkim and the Northeast. He noted that better infrastructure has facilitated tourism, trade, and investment, thereby creating new opportunities for economic growth and employment generation.

Shri Subba observed that the transformation witnessed in the region is not limited to infrastructure alone but also extends to governance and service delivery. He stated that improved administrative efficiency and focused policy interventions have contributed to better outcomes for the people.

Referring to the broader vision of national development, Shri Subba emphasized that balanced regional growth is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable progress. He stated that the focus on the Northeast reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across all regions of the country.

Shri Subba also highlighted that the journey of development in Sikkim and the Northeast is a reflection of the spirit of ‘Seva’ (service), which he described as central to governance. He noted that the progress achieved so far stands as a testament to dedicated efforts aimed at improving the lives of citizens.

Concluding his address, Shri Subba reaffirmed his confidence in the Government’s continued commitment to the development of Sikkim and the Northeast region. He expressed optimism that sustained focus on infrastructure, connectivity, and governance will further accelerate growth and bring lasting benefits to the people.
