Bihar: Over 70 Children Fall Ill After Mid-Day Meal at Government School
PTI | MADHEPURA | FEB 9, 2026: More than 70 children fell ill after allegedly consuming a mid-day meal at a government school in Bihar’s Madhepura district, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place on Saturday at the Upgraded Middle School in Karu Tola, Madhepura Sadar block. Children reportedly began vomiting and complained of stomach pain and dizziness shortly after eating the meal.
District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar said, “An investigation has been initiated, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.” Local residents alleged that a lizard had fallen into the food.
The affected children were rushed to Madhepura Sadar Hospital. Doctors reported that most children are now out of danger, though the condition of one girl remains critical.
