An appeal against any decision of the ERO may be filed before the District Magistrate under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 within 15 days. Understanding “Under Adjudication” Status in West Bengal Voter Rolls

If your name appears among the 60 lakh voters currently under review by district judges in West Bengal, it indicates that your application is being legally scrutinised. This “under adjudication” status arises due to “logical discrepancies”, such as data mismatches or potential duplicates, which were flagged during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Election Commission officials have clarified that the February 28 electoral roll is not final. Adjudication will continue beyond this date to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised. Once cleared, names will be included in supplementary electoral rolls in phases, up to the last date of nominations for the upcoming elections.

Document Verification for Adjudication

To have your “under adjudication” status cleared, you may need to provide original documents for physical verification. While most documents already uploaded and available with the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will be verified by judges, in certain cases, a voter may have to physically appear with the necessary documents.

The Supreme Court has restricted acceptable evidence for the SIR process to 13 specific documents. Key proofs include:

  • Aadhaar card

  • Class 10 pass certificate

  • Admit card (usually paired with the pass certificate to confirm parentage)

Judicial officers are required to record detailed reasons for every acceptance or rejection of a voter’s application.

What to Do if Your Name Is Not Cleared

If a district judge does not clear your name or rejects inclusion in the roll, you can submit a fresh application using Form 6. This can be done either:

  • Online, via the official portal (voters.eci.gov.in), or

  • In person, at your local election office

Ensure that you have valid identity and address proofs ready to upload or attach with your application.

This process ensures that all eligible voters in West Bengal have the opportunity to be included in the electoral rolls while maintaining the integrity of the voter list.
