SIR-Related Unrest: CEO Warns DEOs Over Delay in FIRs
The CEO directed that any failure to act will be viewed seriously, and inferences will be drawn against the concerned DEO. “In case violations and destruction to public property persist, hearings in such cases should be adjourned sine die and will commence only after approval of the CEO, West Bengal,” the directive stated.
Reiterating a recent Supreme Court order, Agarwal emphasised that in any law-and-order situation at hearing venues or government offices linked to SIR, DEOs must immediately file an FIR with the local police and send copies to the Superintendent of Police and the CEO’s office.
The warning follows sporadic incidents of vandalism at hearing venues in recent days.
