ED Chief Holds Key Meetings in Kolkata Amid I-PAC Raid Row
Navin, who recently arrived in the city, convened discussions at the CGO Complex from the morning, focusing on several high-profile investigations handled by the Kolkata zonal office. These include cases related to coal and sand smuggling, the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment case, and a Sahara-linked matter. Sources said Navin sought detailed updates on investigation progress, court proceedings, and cases in which prosecution complaints have already been filed.
The visit comes shortly after ED searches at the residence of Pratik Jain, head of political consultancy firm I-PAC, and the firm’s office, in connection with an old coal smuggling case originating from Delhi. The raids triggered sharp political reactions after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was present at the site, alleged that the agency attempted to access her party’s election strategy.
Legal proceedings over the incident were initiated in the Calcutta High Court and have now reached the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear the case regarding the alleged obstruction during the I-PAC raid on February 3.
