Hagrama Mohilary Sworn In as Bodoland Territorial Council Chief

EOI, KOKRAJHAR, OCTOBER 5, 2025 : Hagrama Mohilary was sworn in today as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Bodofa Nagar playground in Kokrajhar in the presence of Assam Governor Jagdish Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarma. Ten council members also took oath as part of the new administration.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), under Mohilary’s leadership, secured a sweeping victory in the 2025 BTC elections, winning 28 out of 40 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed only five seats, while the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) secured seven.

Earlier in the day, Mohilary and his team paid tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at Dotma Thulungapuri. They also paid homage at the Bodoland Martyrs’ Memorial in Debargaon, honoring the region’s legacy and leaders.

Speaking to reporters, Mohilary said that the BPF would join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) only if the UPPL is excluded from the coalition. This came after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the BPF is already part of the NDA — a statement that Mohilary refuted. He said that a clear political understanding must come first before any alliance discussions.

During the BPF’s policy-making committee meeting held on October 3 at the Bodoland Guest House, key priorities for the new tenure were outlined. These include issuing land pattas to the people of Bodoland, reviving 16 BTC departments, and restoring full administrative powers to the council.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Mohilary and his team, saying, “Congratulations to Hagrama Mohilary for taking oath as the CEM of Bodoland Territorial Council along with his team of Executive Members. I am confident that they will serve the people with zeal and fulfill Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma’s dream of a shining Bodoland. The Government of Assam will fully support the new BTC Government to fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
