BJP MP Injured During Visit to Flood-Hit Nagrakata; Allegations of Local Misconduct Surface

PTI, Kolkata, October 6, 2025 :  BJP MP Khagen Murmu was reportedly injured on Monday after he and MLA Sankar Ghosh were allegedly heckled by locals during a visit to flood-affected Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district.

Ghosh shared a video on social media showing a blood-stained Murmu before he was rushed to a hospital, claiming that the two were pushed and their vehicle vandalized by locals. PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Ghosh, the BJP MLA from Siliguri, said they had to leave the area immediately to take Murmu, MP from Malda Uttar, to the hospital. Murmu received initial medical aid and is being taken to Siliguri for further treatment.

In the video, Ghosh alleged, “Locals kicked and punched us, and then started throwing stones at us, causing severe injury to Khagen da.”

The BJP leadership blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress for the incident. Amit Malviya, BJP’s national IT in-charge and West Bengal co-incharge, criticized the state government, alleging, “Murmu was attacked while trying to help with relief efforts. The state administration was missing in action. This is TMC’s Bengal, where those helping people are attacked.”

Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar also claimed that the incident occurred “in the presence of the Mamata-police.”
