West Bengal CEO Launches Portal for Polling Personnel Ahead of 2026 Polls

PTI, Kolkata, Sep 18, 2025 : In preparation for the 2026 West Bengal elections, the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) launched a new portal on Thursday to create a comprehensive database of election manpower. The portal, emms.wb.gov.in, was unveiled virtually by the CEO's office, with senior officials including Additional CEO Arindam Niyogi, Deputy CEO Dr. Sumanta Roy, and NIC officials from Kolkata and districts in attendance. Officers from all 24 districts also participated in the launch.

The new system is significant, especially considering the expected increase of nearly 14,000 polling stations and the redeployment of many former polling personnel as Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Around 32,000 officers are set to be enrolled in the database to ensure smooth election management.

Key features of the upgraded portal include:

  • Randomisation of polling personnel

  • Training on demand

  • Online tests

  • Generation of intimation letters

  • Monitoring of election experience

District officials were provided with operational training and a detailed activity timeline, which includes data entry schedules and polling personnel training plans.

With the launch of the portal, officials will now directly enter and manage data online, which will streamline the preparation of manpower for the 2026 polls. This digital solution aims to enhance efficiency and ensure smooth management of election-related tasks.
