PM to Unveil Projects Worth ₹8,500 Cr in Manipur, Interact with Displaced People
PTI, IMPHAL, SEPT 12, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on September 13 and interact with internally displaced people in Churachandpur and Imphal, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said on Friday — the first official confirmation of the PM's trip to the strife-torn state.
This will be Modi's first visit to Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state two years ago. The Prime Minister will also unveil development projects worth ₹8,500 crore, Goel said at a press conference.
In a release, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated: “In line with his commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and holistic development of Manipur, the PM will lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹7,300 crore at Churachandpur.”
Modi will also inaugurate development projects worth more than ₹1,200 crore in Imphal, the PMO said.
"PM's Visit Will Pave the Way for Peace"
Addressing the press, Chief Secretary Goel emphasized: "Peace is not only the absence of violence but also the presence of trust, harmony, and reconciliation. Thus, the visit of the Prime Minister to Manipur will pave the way to peace, normalcy, and accelerated growth in the state."
Modi will arrive in Manipur from Aizawl on September 13.
He will interact with internally displaced people (IDPs) in both Churachandpur and Imphal, and address two public rallies during his visit.
PM's Schedule

12:15 PM – Churachandpur:The Prime Minister will interact with displaced persons and lay foundation stones for various infrastructure projects across the state. He will also address a public gathering at Peace Ground in Churachandpur.

2:30 PM – Kangla (Imphal):Modi will interact with more IDPs and inaugurate multiple development projects. He will then address a public rally at Kangla.
Key Projects to be Unveiled
Among the development projects to be inaugurated:

New Manipur Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, built at a cost of ₹101 crore

Civil Secretariat in Imphal, constructed at a cost of ₹538 crore
From Churachandpur, the PM will also lay the foundation stone for:

Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project – ₹3,647 crore

Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project – ₹550 crore
Call for Unity and Participation
The state government has appreciated the efforts of the people of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley, for their role in "successfully moving forward to restore peace and normalcy" in the state.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel noted that the joint efforts of all stakeholders have "brought stability and security slowly but steadily" in the region.
“Manipur is not just a border state, but a central pillar of India’s Act East Policy and a gateway to Southeast Asia, as well as a proud guardian of India’s diversity,” Goel added.
He further appealed to the people of Manipur to come forward and welcome the Prime Minister, urging them to participate in the programmes in large numbers.
