Israel Confirms Airstrikes on Yemen's Capital; Presidential Palace Site Hit

The Week,  August 24, 2025 :  Israeli military confirms airstrikes on Yemeni capital Sanaa, hitting Houthi military sites, including the presidential palace, in response to recent Houthi missile attacks on Israel.

The Israeli military has confirmed airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, targeting military compounds, including the one housing the presidential palace. These airstrikes took place just days after the Houthi rebels fired a missile toward Israel, according to reports from the Associated Press (AP).

"Multiple military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in Sanaa, Yemen, including a military site in which the presidency palace is located, the Adar and Hizaz power plants, and a site for storing fuel—all used for the military activity of the Houthi regime. These strikes were carried out in response to repeated Houthi attacks on Israel with missiles and UAVs. The Houthis, backed by Iran, continue to exploit civilian infrastructure for terror purposes," stated a tweet from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on X.

The airstrikes hit multiple locations across the capital, including a power plant and a gas station. Loud explosions were heard by residents, and smoke plumes were observed near central gathering places in the city.

The Iran-backed Houthis have launched missiles and drones toward Israel and targeted ships in the Red Sea for over 22 months, according to AP.

An Israeli Air Force official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in line with military regulations, told AP that the projectile fired from Yemen towards Israel on Friday night represented a new threat. The official stated that the missile was a cluster munition, designed to detonate into multiple explosives.
