Birbhum's Bivas Adhikari Arrested for Fraud and Fake Police Station Operations

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, August 10, 2025 : In a major breakthrough, the Central Investigation Agency has arrested Bivas Adhikari, a notorious figure from Nalhati in Birbhum, West Bengal, for allegedly operating a fraudulent police station under the guise of an international investigation agency. The arrest, which also involved his son and four associates, comes after a detailed investigation into a web of deceit, involving fake identification cards and illegal financial extortion.

Bivas Adhikari, once linked to recruitment corruption cases, was apprehended along with his son, Arghya Adhikari, and four other individuals: Babulchandra Mandal, Pintu Pal, Samapad Mal, and Ashish Kumar. The arrests were made in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, following a covert operation by the police. The accused were found in possession of multiple forged documents, which were allegedly used to pose as official investigators and demand money from people under the pretense of conducting investigations.

According to police sources, Bivas and his associates operated a fraudulent police station, which they used to impersonate government officials. They would conduct "investigations" and extort money from the public, offering their services as if they were part of a legitimate law enforcement operation. Investigators found a large cache of counterfeit international recognition ID cards during searches at Bivas's so-called police station.

This is not the first time Bivas Adhikari has found himself in legal trouble. Last year, in April, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted a raid at his residence and ashram in Nalhati, Birbhum, seizing a large number of documents. It was also revealed that Bivas had been involved in recruitment corruption scandals in the past, with his name emerging in connection with alleged illegal appointments, which further taints his public image.

The police believe that the group’s operations extended beyond India, with Bivas and his associates reportedly claiming to have an office in the United Kingdom. Investigators hope to uncover more evidence as they continue their interrogation of the suspects.

Bivas had previously been associated with religious activities, overseeing a branch of a prominent religious ashram in Nalhati. However, the ashram’s other branches have distanced themselves from him, clarifying that it was his personal venture and not affiliated with the broader religious community. His political affiliations remain unclear, though he had once served as the district president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). There were also rumors suggesting a close relationship with BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, although Bivas never joined the BJP.

As investigations continue, authorities are hopeful that the evidence seized will reveal the full extent of the fraudulent network and its operations, while also uncovering any potential connections to larger political or criminal organizations.
