UG Admission Deadline Extended to July 15
MP, JULY 2, 2025, Kolkata : The Higher Education department has extended the deadline for registration and submission of undergraduate (UG) applications through the Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) to July 15. The application process, which began on June 18, was initially scheduled to close on July 1.
Education Minister Bratya Basu, in a post on X, said the extension was decided in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directive for the benefit of students. “As of 6 pm on Tuesday, 3,25,342 students have registered and submitted a total of 18,24,914 applications. Of these, 2,901 are from outside the state,” he wrote.
Basu also mentioned that the department’s AI-powered chatbot ‘Veena’ has responded to 33,267 queries so far. The portal covers admissions to 7,229 courses across 460 government and government-aided colleges under 17 universities. More than nine lakh seats are available this year.
Meanwhile, data from the Higher Education department revealed a clear trend in subject preference, with biosciences emerging as the most sought-after stream across most districts. Zoology featured among the top five most applied-for subjects in 20 districts, followed by Botany in 15, and Microbiology in 13. Physiology saw significant demand in nine districts, while Computer Application and Psychology appeared in the top five in six and five districts respectively. Computer Science, Political Science, and Chemistry each featured in the top five in four districts.
