Eight Militants Arrested in Manipur, Arms and Ammunition Recovered

PTI, Imphal, July 22, 2025 : The security forces in Manipur arrested eight militants from different outfits and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition during operations carried out over the past 24 hours, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

A police officer stated that the arrested militants belong to the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). They were apprehended from the Tengnoupal and Imphal East districts. Items recovered from the militants included a car, Indian and Nepali currencies, mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, and PAN cards.

Among the eight arrested, three KCP militants were detained from the India-Myanmar border areas in the hilly Tengnoupal district. In addition to the arrests, security forces also recovered a significant number of weapons from the mountainous Kangpokpi district. The recovered arms include an INSAS rifle with a magazine, a .303 rifle, a lathode, a .32 pistol with a magazine, four bolt-action rifles, an M16 rifle, an MA1 assault rifle, a sniper rifle, a .32 bore pistol, and seven single-barrel rifles. Four hand grenades were also seized during the operation, which took place in Tingkai Khullen, Maohing, and Changoubung villages of the district.

The security forces have continued to conduct search operations and maintain area dominance in vulnerable and fringe areas across the districts of Imphal Valley and the hilly regions.

Manipur Police have once again urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors and fake videos, asking citizens to be cautious about misleading content circulating on social media. A police statement emphasized that the authenticity of videos, audio clips, and other media can be verified through the Central Control Room.

Additionally, the police have warned that uploading and circulating fake posts on social media could lead to legal action. The authorities have also appealed to the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces immediately.
