Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Visit West Bengal on June 1 for Party Rally and Strategic Meeting

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 28, 2025, Kolkata :
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting West Bengal on June 1 to attend a central government event, likely to be held in Kolkata, according to BJP sources. He will be on a two-day visit to the state over the weekend.

On June 1, Shah will address a rally of party workers scheduled to take place at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in central Kolkata. He is expected to return to New Delhi in the evening of the same day.

During the visit, the Home Minister will also hold strategic discussions with the BJP’s core committee members and MLAs from the state. A BJP source indicated that election preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections, due in 2026, will be a major point of discussion.

Although there were initial objections from some quarters of the Bengal BJP due to the visit coinciding with Jamai Sashti, a significant family-oriented celebration in Bengal, the schedule was eventually confirmed. State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar announced that the Home Minister would visit on June 1, and a working meeting would be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. The party has instructed that leaders and workers from all sections must attend the event.

Some within the Bengal BJP had expressed concern about hosting such a major political event on Jamai Sashti, citing family obligations. However, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari stated that the family celebrations would conclude by the afternoon, and there would be no conflict with the party’s programme. After extended discussions between the central and state leadership, it was decided to go ahead with the June 1 visit.

On that day, Amit Shah will hold an organizational meeting with Bengal’s BJP leaders and officially kick off the 2026 election campaign. It remains to be seen how many seats he will target in the upcoming election, but enthusiasm among the party’s cadre is reportedly at an all-time high.

Former BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha stated that more than 10,000 party workers, including all elected MPs and MLAs, will attend the rally.

Political analysts view the timing of this visit — closely following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state — as highly significant, especially with the state assembly elections looming next year and a by-election in the Kaliganj Assembly constituency in Nadia district next month.

A member of the state BJP committee revealed that in the May 31 meeting with the state leadership, the Home Minister is expected to present the party’s political, organizational, and campaign strategy for the upcoming elections. He is also likely to unveil a blueprint focusing on anti-incumbency issues and allegations of corruption against both the West Bengal state government and the ruling Trinamool Congress.

This visit is seen as a crucial moment in shaping the BJP’s roadmap for West Bengal, signaling a ramp-up in its electoral machinery as the state heads toward a high-stakes political battle.
