Tragic Incident in Kolkata: Man Suspected of Suicide After House Fire

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, March 27, 2025, Kolkata :  A tragic incident unfolded in Tantipara under Lilua police station when a fire broke out in a residential house late at night. The sudden explosion and flames alerted neighbors, who rushed to the scene and discovered a shocking sight—a man hanging from a tree near the burning house.

Upon witnessing the fire, locals immediately sprang into action, using buckets of water from a nearby water source in an attempt to douse the flames. Shortly thereafter, two fire engines arrived and successfully brought the fire under control. Police officials reached the location, retrieved the body, and sent it to Howrah District Hospital for further procedures. The deceased has been identified as Arun Roy.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that Arun Roy’s wife and child had traveled to Thakurnagar on Wednesday to attend a religious function, leaving him alone in the house. According to sources close to the investigation, Arun Roy and his wife were reportedly experiencing marital discord and had been living separately within the same residence. Based on initial findings, authorities suspect that Arun Roy may have taken his own life by releasing gas from a cylinder and setting fire to the house, possibly due to ongoing domestic tensions.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the incident. The authorities have urged people to reach out for help in times of distress and emphasized the importance of mental health awareness to prevent such tragedies.
