Kalimpong Unveils Adventure Tourism Roadmap with successful Hot Air Balloon Test

KalimNews, 17 February 2025 : The Kalimpong district administration, in collaboration with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Tourism and the West Bengal Tourism Department, has launched a comprehensive roadmap to promote adventure tourism and community development in the region. This initiative aims to position Kalimpong as a sustainable model for adventure tourism, thereby enhancing local livelihoods and preserving cultural heritage.

A significant milestone in this endeavor was the successful hot-air balloon test flight conducted in Relli. District Magistrate Balasubramanian T. highlighted the administration's commitment to ensuring the technical and professional safety of such activities, emphasizing their potential to boost local tourism.

The GTA Tourism Department has identified several riverbank locations suitable for hot-air ballooning, camping, hiking, and water sports. These initiatives are designed to involve the local community actively, promoting cultural heritage and sustainable eco-tourism. By focusing on community-based tourism, the administration aims to create a unique adventure tourism model that benefits residents and attracts visitors to Kalimpong.
