Elon Musk’s Expanding Family: A Look at His 13 Children and Their Mothers

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is not only known for his trailblazing innovations in technology but also for his large and diverse family. With 13 children from four different mothers, Musk’s personal life has drawn significant attention over the years. His children often accompany him to exclusive events, including high-level meetings with world leaders. Recently, some of them were spotted in Washington, D.C., where Musk leads the Department of Government Efficiency.

Earlier this week, Musk, along with his girlfriend Shivon Zilis, met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, Modi gifted Musk’s children three books by Indian writers. Among those present were Musk’s son X, whom he shares with musician Grimes, and the twins Azure and Strider, born to Shivon Zilis.

A Glimpse into Musk’s Family Tree

Justine Wilson: Mother of Six

Musk's first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson, shares six children with him.

  • Nevada Alexander Musk (2002): Musk and Wilson’s first child, Nevada, tragically passed away at just 10 weeks old due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Despite resuscitation efforts, he was declared brain-dead and taken off life support.

  • Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin Musk (2004): Just two months after losing Nevada, Musk and Wilson turned to IVF and welcomed twins. One of them, originally named Xavier Alexander Musk, legally changed her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson in 2022 after coming out as transgender. She has since distanced herself from Musk, legally stating she no longer wishes to be associated with him.

  • Kai, Saxon, and Damian Musk (2006): Wilson later gave birth to triplets via IVF. Among them, Damian has shown exceptional talent in classical music, mathematics, and physics.

Grimes: Three Children with Musk

Musk’s relationship with musician Claire Boucher, known as Grimes, resulted in three children.

  • X Æ A-12 Musk (2020): The couple’s firstborn, nicknamed ‘X,’ gained global attention due to his unconventional name. It was later modified to X Æ A-Xii to comply with legal naming regulations. Recently, X was seen at the Oval Office as Musk attended an executive order signing event.

  • Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (2021): Born via surrogate just a month after Musk welcomed twins with Zilis, Exa was named after futuristic and astronomical elements.

  • Techno Mechanicus Musk (2022): Also known as ‘Tau,’ Musk and Grimes’ third child was born in June 2022, though his birth was kept private for some time.

Shivon Zilis: Mother of Three

Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink, secretly welcomed twins with Musk in November 2021. Their names and genders were publicly revealed in September 2023.

  • Strider and Azure Musk (2021): A son and daughter born in secrecy, their existence was disclosed nearly two years after birth.

  • Unnamed Third Child (2023): Musk confirmed in June 2023 that he had a third child with Zilis. However, neither the child’s name nor gender has been publicly disclosed.

Ashley St Clair and Musk’s Youngest Child

On February 14, 2025, author Ashley St Clair publicly claimed she had given birth to Musk’s 13th child five months earlier.

“Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child's privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause,” she posted on X.

A Growing Legacy

Musk has frequently spoken about his belief in population growth and has expressed his desire to have a large family. While his professional ventures continue to reshape industries, his personal life remains just as dynamic, making headlines as his family expands. Whether in boardrooms or at global summits, Musk's children often remain by his side, hinting at a future where they might one day follow in their father’s ambitious footsteps.
