Youth Rescued from Kidnappers in Siliguri, Five Arrested in Swift Police Operation
Don't Miss
The shocking incident occurred on the night of Monday, January 8, when Abhinandan Pandit, a resident of the VIP More area, was forcibly abducted by two men on a scooter. The kidnappers immediately contacted his family using his mobile phone, demanding a ransom of Rs 1 lakh for his safe return. The family, deeply distressed, arranged the ransom money, believing it was their only option to ensure his release.
Unbeknownst to the abductors, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police had been alerted and swiftly launched a strategic surveillance operation. The police worked with intelligence gathered from various sources and set up a well-coordinated plan. After hours of tense monitoring, the police successfully traced the abductors’ movements to the New Jalpaiguri area, where they rescued Abhinandan without harm.
Within 24 hours of the kidnapping, the police arrested five suspects in connection with the crime. The accused, who hailed from various locations, included one individual from Gujarat, another from Nepal, and three local residents of Siliguri. The police operation was carried out by the Ashighar Outpost in collaboration with the NJP Police Station. Siliguri Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Singh confirmed that a kidnapping case had been registered, though the exact motive behind the abduction remains unclear. As of now, the victim, Abhinandan, has yet to provide a detailed statement regarding the incident.
The rapid response of the police and their ability to thwart the criminals' plans have been hailed by the local community. However, authorities are continuing their investigation into the possible connections between the kidnappers and their involvement in illegal activities such as online gambling and betting, which is believed to have played a role in the incident.
