TMC councillor murder case: Cops arrest absconding sharp shooter
Avijit Roy, MP, 19 Jan 2025, Malda: In a significant breakthrough, the police arrested Mohammad Asrar, a 22-year-old resident of Kanharia Minapur under Baisi Police Station, on Sunday in connection with the murder of Dulal Sarkar alias Babla, a TMC councillor from English Bazar Municipality. Sarkar was gunned down on January 2.
Asrar had been on the run since the incident but was apprehended by the police after diligent efforts. According to the police,
Asrar was one of the four assailants involved in the shooting. He was reportedly driving and waiting on a motorbike as a reserve shooter while his associates executed the fatal attack on Sarkar.

Earlier, two major suspects, Narendra Nath Tiwary, former TMC president of English Bazar Town and Swapan Sharma, a notorious criminal, were apprehended.
Sharma is known for his criminal activities and multiple prior charges. Additionally, Samee Akhtar, Mohammad Abdul Gani both of Katihar in Bihar and Tinku Ghosh, Abhijeet Ghosh and Amit Rajak of English Bazar were arrested in connection with the murder.
Malda police have also released photos of two absconding suspects in the case offering a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each for information,
Krishna Rajak (30) and Bablu Yadav (31) both of English Bazar. The suspects are facing serious charges under various sections of BNS and the Arms Act and the police have seized the motorcycle and firearms used in the crime.
