KalimNews, January 13, 2025, Kolkata: In light of ongoing construction work on the Loop Bridge (locally called Selroti Loop Bridge) at Bagrakote along NH 717A and recent incidents of individuals engaging in risky activities such as taking selfies and recording videos, the District Magistrate of Kalimpong, Balasubramanian T, has issued an order restricting vehicle stoppage and public gatherings in the area. This directive aims to ensure public safety during the construction process.
The order follows an appeal by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), requesting temporary restrictions on vehicle stoppages and diversions along the stretch of NH 717A for the construction and upgrading of the road. Responding to this appeal, the District Magistrate has mandated that vehicles are allowed only to pass through the area without halting, effective from 6:00 a.m. on January 14, 2025, until further notice.
The restricted stretch encompasses 500 meters before and after the Selroti Loop Pool, specifically from 500 meters before Ch 3+500 to 500 meters after Ch 8+500 along NH 717A. This area has been declared a "No Halting Zone," and the order prohibits stopping for photographs or other activities. Police, particularly traffic personnel, have been directed to enforce these restrictions to maintain safety.
The District Magistrate has also authorized temporary restrictions or diversions of all types of vehicles within the specified zone on a case-by-case basis. Such decisions will be made in consultation with the authorities to ensure the safety of the general public and residents of adjacent areas.
This precautionary measure underscores the importance of public safety during infrastructure development and highlights the need for cooperation from all stakeholders in adhering to the directives issued.
