Bengal HS Education Council Organizes Workshop to Enhance Students' English Writing Abilities

PTI, Kolkata, January 7, 2024 – The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education on Tuesday held a workshop in Kolkata to improve the English writing skills of students. The 'Hands on English Writing' workshop was attended by 300 students from 60 state-run and state-aided higher secondary schools in the city.

"Certain skills are required for English conversation and writing. From examination answer sheets to social media posts, the proper and apt use of English words and phrases are important. This will equip the students to cope with future challenges in their journey," said Council president Chiranjib Bhattacharya in a statement.

The workshop aimed to help students improve grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and the organizational structure of sentences, Bhattacharya later told PTI.

Sandip Banerjee, headmaster of a state-run school and instructor for the workshop, said, "We will impart working knowledge of English usage in written communication and also wish to dispel students’ fear of the language."

Another council official added that this pilot project will be repeated on a larger scale in the future, involving more students and schools.
