RBI Gangtok Conducts Financial Literacy Programme for Divyangjans

PIB, Gangtok, 11 DEC 2024 : The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Gangtok Office, organized a Financial Literacy programme for divyangjans on December 10, 2024, at its office premises. This initiative marked the first-ever one-to-one interaction between RBI officials, bankers, and divyangjan individuals in Gangtok.

The programme, attended by around 30 participants, including attendants and bankers, aimed to promote financial inclusion and literacy among the divyangjan community. The programme was conducted by a team from RBI Gangtok, comprising Shri Thotngam Jamang, Regional Director; Shri Goda Ravishankar, General Manager; and FIDD officials.

Shri Goda Ravishankar underscored the significance of the financial literacy workshop, specifically designed for divyangjan customers, as a key component of RBI's efforts to reach out to vulnerable populations. He also commended Gangtok RO's innovative initiative to produce Braille Financial Literacy Material during Financial Literacy Week 2024.

The programme featured informative sessions on guidelines for customer service in banks for divyangjans, banking frauds and grievance redressal mechanism in banks, RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, and the importance of MANI App and its functionalities. RBI officials and representatives from SBI provided valuable insights and clarified queries raised by participants.

In an open forum, participants discussed their problems faced during banking transactions, which were addressed by RBI officials and bankers. Shri Thotngam Jamang, Regional Director, RBI, thanked the participants and assured that similar programmes would be conducted in other districts to reach more divyangjans.

The programme received positive feedback from participants, and the Persons with Disabilities Community (PDCS) thanked RBI for taking this initiative.
