Delay in Central funds: State releases 25% composite grant for schools
MP, 10 Dec 2024, Kolkata: Although the Central government has yet to release the funds for the state Samagra Shiksha Mission (SSM), from which the composite grant is funded, the state government has taken the initiative to release 25 per cent of the composite grant for upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as for SSKs and MSKs.
More than Rs 22 crore has been allotted for this. “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is attentive to all matters, from school mid-day meals to composite grants. However, the Central government remains indifferent to improving the state’s educational infrastructure.
Their entire share of the composite grant is still pending. We are also considering quickly providing the remaining pending amount of our share to the schools,” stated Bratya Basu, state Education Minister.
State-run schools receive the composite grant based on student strength. Schools with 1 to 30 students receive Rs 10,000, those with 31 to 100 students receive Rs 25,000, schools with 101 to 250 students get Rs 50,000, schools with 251 to 1,000 students receive Rs 75,000, and schools with more than 1,000 students receive Rs 1 lakh.
This grant is crucial for covering essential school expenses, such as minor repairs, classroom supplies like chalk and dusters and other miscellaneous costs
