Demand for a fire station at Alagarah – Pedong area

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, NOVEMBER 19, 2024 :  A delegation from Santuk Gram Panchayat, under the direction of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration No. 37 constituency Sabasad Tenji Sherpa, met West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose on Tuesday.

Led by Santuk Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Chettri, the team formally submitted a memorandum to the minister, reiterating their long-standing demand for the establishment of a Fire Service Centre at Alagada. Chettri stated that the GTA had already announced plans for setting up the center in Alagada, but bureaucratic and departmental procedures had delayed its implementation.

“This issue has been brought to the forefront because of the frequent fire incidents in Alagada, Pedong, and surrounding areas, which pose a significant threat to local residents,” he stated.

The memorandum emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that residents had been demanding a fire station in the area for years.

Bose acknowledged the concerns and assured the delegation that he would prioritize the issue.

Chettri expressed optimism following the meeting, saying: “The minister has shown a positive approach to addressing the issue, and we hope to see progress soon.”
