During the investigation, Delhi Police traced the fake document to Siliguri. Acting swiftly, a team from Delhi traveled to Siliguri and, with local assistance, apprehended Barman at the ISKCON Temple Road area.
Barman was produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Monday, and Delhi Police obtained a five-day transit remand to bring him to Delhi for further questioning. Authorities suspect that Barman is connected to a larger criminal network responsible for producing fake identification documents. This case has sparked growing concerns about the widespread use of counterfeit documents and their implications for national security.
The breakthrough came when Khokon Barua, arrested at the airport, revealed that the fake voter ID card he was carrying had been obtained from Siliguri. Further investigation led to Barman’s arrest, and Delhi Police are now focusing on dismantling the broader network involved in producing these fraudulent documents.
The arrest has also brought attention to the increasing crime rate in Siliguri. In the past five days, more than 20 individuals have been arrested by Siliguri Metropolitan Police in connection with planned criminal activities. In a separate incident, Bhakti Nagar Police arrested three people involved in stealing a car. The suspects took the car while its owner was away in Sikkim and attempted to sell it in Malda.
Furthermore, Siliguri Police uncovered an organized group exploiting impoverished minors to train them in crimes such as burglary, snatching, and theft. One of the ringleaders, known as Vicky, was arrested in Tikiapara. Over the past five days, more than 15 individuals have been apprehended by Bhakti Nagar and New Jalpaiguri police stations, as they were found planning criminal acts.
Adding to the string of criminal cases, West Bengal Police recently arrested eight people from Siliguri in connection with a tablet scam.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into these criminal activities, with a particular focus on dismantling the network responsible for the production and distribution of fake identification documents.
