Political Turmoil in Birbhum: Trinamool Congress Meeting Erupts in Chaos

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, October 17, 2024, Birbhum :  A scheduled political meeting in Murarai took a tumultuous turn following the return of Anubrata Mondal after his recent bail. The Trinamool Congress organized a Vijaya conference on Thursday, but tensions escalated among party workers, leading to clashes before police intervened to restore order.

The meeting featured notable party leaders, including Bolpur Trinamool MLA and state minister Chandranath Singh, Siuri MLA Bikas Roy Chowdhury, and core committee member Sudipta Ghosh. However, the absence of key figures Kajal Sekh, Abhijit Singh, and Ashish Banerjee raised eyebrows and contributed to the underlying tensions.

Compounding the issues, a storm that morning damaged part of the stage, necessitating hasty repairs just before the meeting commenced. As Anubrata Mondal addressed the audience, urging peace and unity, saying, "Who will you fight for? What for? No murder. Stay peaceful everyone," the mood remained volatile.

Despite his return, the Birbhum District Trinamool Core Committee, established by the Chief Minister, is reportedly still steering party operations, indicating ongoing internal challenges within the ranks. The situation remains fluid as party members grapple with leadership and unity moving forward.
