Normal Traffic on NH-10 Resumes, Restrictions on Heavy Vehicles Continue on Internal Roads

KalimNews, October 23, 2024, Kalimpong :
Due to the improvement in road conditions, normal traffic movement on National Highway 10 will be allowed starting from October 25. Ramen Mondal, Executive Engineer-II of the National Highway Division No. IX and the Highway Administrator for NH-10, announced that traffic movement on National Highway 10 (NH-10) will resume for all classes of vehicles starting from 6:00 AM on October 25, 2024, following significant improvements in road conditions.

Light vehicles, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles will now be allowed to ply the route. However, for safety reasons, commercial vehicles are restricted to a maximum laden weight of 10 metric tonnes. Several key points along the highway will continue to permit only single-lane traffic, including:

  • Ch 3.30 Km (Kalijhora)
  • Ch 6.70 Km (Seti Jhora)
  • Ch 21.10 Km (28th Mile)
  • Ch 26.15 Km (Likhubhir)
  • Ch 33.80 Km (Melli)
  • Ch 42.50 Km (Mamkhola)

Traffic regulations and load restrictions for commercial vehicles are being managed by the district administration to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.

Meanwhile, heavy vehicle movement restrictions imposed by Balasubramanian T, the District Magistrate of Kalimpong, on September 29, 2024, will remain in effect on key internal roads of the Kalimpong District. These restrictions include:

  1. Vehicle Restrictions:

    • All heavy vehicles with a laden weight exceeding 8 tonnes (maximum six-wheelers) are prohibited from:
      • Gorubathan Pandara to Reshi via Lava, Algarah, and Pedong.
      • Gorubathan Pandara to Kalimpong via Lava and Algarah.
    • Movement of heavy vehicles along State Highway 12, from Rabi Mora (Deo Gram) to Peshok Bridge, also remains suspended until further notice.
  2. Vehicle Movement Regulations:

    • Heavy vehicles (up to 8 tonnes) bound for Kalimpong town are permitted to travel via Algarah only during the hours of 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, until further orders.
    • Police at checkpoints such as Pandora, Gorubathan, and other district borders will enforce route diversions as required.

Additionally, the district police may impose temporary restrictions or diversions on all types of vehicles to ensure public safety, as necessary. These measures will remain in place until road conditions further improve or new orders are issued.

The administration’s careful regulation of traffic flow, especially on critical stretches of NH-10 and internal district roads, underscores their commitment to public safety amid ongoing infrastructure challenges.
