EOI, Siliguri, September 25, 2024: A case of abduction involving a minor has come to light, stemming from a love trap orchestrated via social media.
The incident culminated in a ransom demand of Rs 20 lakh from the family of the abducted class 11 student.
According to police reports from Matigara, the minor was reported missing on September 19. After a complaint was filed, authorities initiated a search.
The investigation took a turn when the alleged abductors made a ransom call. Detectives reviewed CCTV footage, which showed the minor leaving her tuition centre alone and heading towards Bagdogra Airport.
Further inquiry led the police to trace her journey to Jaipur via Delhi. In response, a special police team was dispatched to Jaipur, where they collaborated with local authorities.
On Monday, they successfully rescued the minor and apprehended two suspects: the alleged lover and his mother.
The suspects were later brought back to Siliguri for further questioning.
This case underscores the dangers of online interactions and the potential risks faced by minors in the digital age. Authorities have urged parents to remain vigilant about their children's online activities.
KalimNews: Two individuals, identified as Aman Sharma (17) and his mother, Preeti Sharma, have been arrested in connection with the abduction of a class 11 student from the Matigara area. The minor, who left home on September 19 under the guise of attending tuition, was reported missing the next day after she failed to return.
Using mobile tower data, police tracked her movements from Bagdogra Airport to Delhi and then Jaipur. The ransom call for Rs 20 lakh was traced to Jaipur, prompting authorities to form a special team to rescue the girl.
On September 23, with assistance from Jaipur Police, the minor was safely recovered, and the Sharmas were arrested on charges of kidnapping. Investigations revealed that Aman had developed a relationship with the victim through social media, which led to the kidnapping plot, executed with his mother's help.
Both suspects were brought back to Siliguri on Wednesday. Preeti Sharma was presented in court, while Aman was sent to juvenile court. The investigation is ongoing.
