YOWAN MOTHAY, KALIMPONG, SEPTEMBER 4, 2023 : The flash flood in Sikkim has also caused a flood-like situation in the downstream districts of Kalimpong and Darjeeling in West Bengal. 
Teesta was running above the extreme danger level at Domohoni in Jalpaiguri. 
One person was missing in the Lava block of Kalimpong, bordering Sikkim. Fourteen people were reported missing, 13 from Rangpo forest valley and one from Tarkhola in Lava block. Efforts were on to trace them. 
Three unidentified bodies were found. Around 2,000 tourists were reported to be stranded in Sikkim areas adjoining Kalimpong. 
Efforts were on to contact them. About 48 houses were washed away in areas bordering Kalimpong and Sikkim and 71 partially damaged. 
Many vehicles were also washed away. With the sudden rise in the level of water in river Teesta, the flood-affected families could not take out anything except the clothes they were wearing when they had to run out. Efforts are on to rescue the displaced families. They have been housed in relief camps in Teesta Bazar.
