KDTWS to Celebrate World Tourism Day with Exciting Events in Kalimpong

KalimNews, Kalimpong, September 16, 2024 : The Kalimpong District Tourism Welfare Society (KDTWS) is thrilled to announce its inaugural celebration of World Tourism Day on November 27, 2024. This exciting event will take place at Industrial Park in the charming town of Kalimpong, with the theme “Tourism and Peace.” The theme aims to reflect on tourism's impact on migration, social equity, climate justice, diplomacy, and cultural preservation, urging a thoughtful exploration of these crucial issues.

World Tourism Day (WTD), celebrated annually on September 27th, is dedicated to raising awareness about tourism's role in socio-economic development and promoting responsible, sustainable tourism practices. 

This year, KDTWS is using the occasion to spotlight Kalimpong's rich historical, cultural, social, and culinary heritage through its first-ever WTD event in the district. The society is confident that Kalimpong's diverse and expansive offerings will make it an appealing destination for visitors.

The day’s activities at Industrial Park will feature:

• Vloggers' Contest: This competition invites travel bloggers to share their compelling travel stories and experiences with the theme “Visit Kalimpong.” Participants will have the chance to showcase their unique perspectives on tourism and vie for exciting prizes. The contest aims to enhance Kalimpong’s visibility as a travel destination and foster global storytelling. Vlogs must be submitted by September 25, 2024, at Aapas Residency, Kalimpong.

• Bicycle Rally for Tourism and Peace: Participants in this rally will have the opportunity to explore Kalimpong’s stunning landscapes on two wheels. The rally will celebrate the town’s natural beauty and promote a message of peace and unity, offering both locals and visitors a rejuvenating experience.

In addition to these main events, the day will also feature:

• Cultural Programme: A vibrant showcase of Kalimpong’s local diversity, including music, dance, and traditional performances.
• Local Stalls: Exhibitions of local products, handicrafts, and cuisines, highlighting the region’s artisanal and culinary excellence.
• Information Point: A dedicated area providing insights into various destinations within Kalimpong district, promoting them as potential weekend getaways for locals and tourists alike.
• Horticulture and Florist Exhibition: The Kalimpong Horticulture and Florist Association will hold an exhibition and sale of beautiful flowers.
