ED Summons State Prisons Minister Chandranath Sinha in Recruitment Corruption Case
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 4, 2024, Kolkata : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned West Bengal's State Prisons Minister Chandranath Sinha on Wednesday in connection with an education recruitment corruption case. Sinha arrived at the ED office at the CGO Complex around 10:30 a.m. His name appears among more than 100 names listed in the diary of Kuntal Ghosh, who was arrested earlier in the recruitment corruption case.
Earlier, the ED had searched Sinha's residence and seized ₹41 lakh in cash, a mobile phone, several bank documents, and other important documents. This seizure is reportedly one of the reasons for calling the state prisons minister to the ED office for questioning.
According to ED sources, Chandranath Sinha's name emerged during the ongoing probe into the recruitment corruption scandal. The seized mobile phone, which was locked at the time of the search, has since been unlocked. ED officials expect to extract significant information from the device, including important documents, conversation records, and WhatsApp chats with various individuals. The ED is also investigating Sinha's alleged connections with other key figures in the case, including Manik Bhattacharya and Partha Chattopadhyay.
Sinha is expected to be questioned extensively about his role in the recruitment corruption case, and his statement will be recorded today. It is worth noting that in connection with this case, several others, including former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, have been arrested following interrogation by ED officials and the School Service Commission (SSC).
