Timely Intervention by Kalimpong Police Saves Three Minor Girls from Possible Human Trafficking
KalimNews, Kalimpong, August 30, 2024: In a commendable operation, Kalimpong Police successfully prevented a potential case of human trafficking involving three minor girls who were planning to travel to Delhi. The alertness and swift action of the police team at Teesta Check Post, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) LSI Dinasang Sherpa, played a crucial role in rescuing the minors and safeguarding them from falling prey to possible trafficking.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded early this morning at around 8:30 AM when LSI Dinasang Sherpa, OC of Teesta Check Post, received information that a 13-year-old girl had been missing from her home since 5 AM. Acting promptly, OC Teesta, along with a police team, initiated an inquiry into the matter and discovered that the minor had left her house with her clothes and a bag, suggesting a planned departure.
Further investigation revealed that the missing girl had gone to a friend's house, who is also a minor. Sensing the urgency of the situation, OC Teesta rushed to the location and successfully located the missing girl. Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the girl, along with two other friends—both minors—were planning to travel to Delhi later in the day. The third girl, aged 16, was identified as a resident of Labarbotay Malli.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, the officer immediately proceeded to Labarbotay Malli and located the third minor girl. During questioning, she also confessed that the three girls had planned to leave for Delhi that very evening. Given the circumstances and the age of the girls involved, there were serious concerns that they could have become victims of human trafficking.
Kalimpong Police then approached the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Kalimpong to ensure that the minors received proper care and protection. Following the directions from the CWC, appropriate measures were taken to safeguard the three girls.
The timely intervention by LSI Dinasang Sherpa, along with her team at OC Teesta Check Post and under the guidance of Inspector-in-Charge (IC) Kalimpong, not only ensured the safe recovery of the three minors but also averted a potential tragedy involving human trafficking. The coordinated efforts of the police reflect their commitment to protecting vulnerable sections of society and preventing crimes that exploit minors.
This operation has garnered praise from the community and has highlighted the importance of vigilance and quick action by law enforcement agencies in tackling the growing menace of human trafficking. The Kalimpong Police’s swift response is a testament to their dedication to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens, especially children, in the region.
