Jaigaon Trader Succumbs to Stabbing Injuries


RAJESH SHARMA, EOI, JAIGAON, AUGUST 25, 2024 : Kumar Thapa, a well-known shopkeeper of Jaigaon town, succumbed to fatal injuries after being allegedly stabbed by a 32-year-old Bhutanese national on Saturday evening. 

The incident took place in Subhash Pally, Jaigaon, behind St. Dominic's School, where both the victim and the alleged attacker resided. 

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation occurred around 4:30 p.m., resulting in critical injuries to Thapa. Despite immediate medical attention, Thapa succumbed to his injuries at Lothabari Hospital. 

The prime suspect escaped to Bhutan but was identified and arrested by the Royal Bhutan Police, who promptly handed him over to Jaigaon Police. 

The investigation is ongoing, and the accused is currently in judicial custody. The tragic incident has left the local community in Jaigaon, who have a cordial relationship with the Bhutanese, in shock and mourning. 

However, it has also highlighted the strength of the Indo-Bhutan relationship and the effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries.
