Tibetan community in Kalimpong celebrates Resolve Tibet legislation in the U.S.

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JULY 20, 2024 : Like the Tibetan communities in different parts of the world, the Tibetan community in Kalimpong, too, is jubilant that the United States Congress has ratified the ‘Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet –China Dispute Act’ and U.S. President Joe Biden has signed it into a legislation.
On Saturday, the Tibetan community in Kalimpong in an event expressed their gratitude to the U. S. President for the passage of the Act. Colourful programmes were held at the event at Mani Lhakhang.
Tibetan Settlement Officer in Kalimpong Chiten appealed to the other countries, too, to pass a Bill to resolve the Tibet –China dispute; just like America. He said the Tibetan community was hopeful that the bipartisan Bill passed by the majority in the two Houses of the U.S. parliament would now solve the problem of Tibet.
“We have organized a programme to express our gratitude to America and to celebrate,” he said.
“China is going to different parts of the world to promote the idea that Tibet is an integral art of China. But this act states that Tibet is an independent country from the beginning. It states that the Tibetan problem should be solved through international law as an unsolved problem in the world, and for which China should unconditionally discuss it with the Dalai Lama, the religious leader of the Tibetan community, and the members appointed by him.”
He said the Indian government should also bring a law similar to the one brought by the US on the Tibet-China dispute.
In this way, Tibet could be liberated from China’s encroachment and oppression, President of the Regional Tibetan Humane Association Chung Dak added. There was a large presence of the Tibetan community in the event.
