Collapse of under construction sections of NH 717A damage houses

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JUNE 18, 2024 : The construction work of 717-A highway is going at a fast pace, but now the sections dug up during the winter months for construction work have started crumbling due to the heavy rains.
The collapse of the road near Barbot Bazar has resulted in the damage to many families. Traffic on the road has also been halted.
In the last rainy season, too, many families were in distress due to road collapse at that place. The National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation and its contractors must carry out protection work at the site, local people have demanded.
They have also demanded compensation for the affected families. An agreement reached earlier for repair of the protection wall and compensating for the damage has not been adhered to.
The contractors’ firm was responsible for the negligence though senior officials of NHIDCL have carried out on-site Inspection.
