Almost six months after the disaster in river Teesta, NationalHighway-10 has not been restored to normal. Even the movement of passenger buses and small vehicles is not going smoothly, not to mention cargo vehicles.
Travelling along the highway is full of risks and the problem of getting stuck in traffic jams remains.
It is not possible to tell when the movement of big vehicles will be restored when even the movement of small vehicles is not normal till now.
There has been no official communication from the administration when heavy vehicles will be able to use NH 10.As a result, drivers are frustrated. They have to travel through the alternative roads in the Kalimpong district. It takes two to three hours more to reach the destination than usual. Vehicles are frequently involved in accidents.
The drivers blame the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation and the West Bengal PWD for the slow pace of repair.
