Congress campaigns at fast forward mode : candidate Munish Tamang campaigns at Naxalbari

Munish Tamang, the election candidate for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha Constituency has been campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, with the campaign slogan ‘Vote for Change,’ ever since his candidature was announced

KalimNews, Naxalbari/Siliguri, 9 April 2024 : With less than 17 days for the poll day and about 15 days for campaign Munish Tamang and his supporters of Indian National Congress and Hamro Party as well as Communist Party of India toured the Naxalbari area under Siliguri Sub-Division and met party workers and local people there.

Munish Tamang, the election candidate for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha Constituency has been campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, with the campaign slogan ‘Vote for Change,’ ever since his candidature was announced by the Indian National Congress on 2 April. Tamang is backed by the CPI-M and Hamro Party in the Hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

At Naxalbari, Tamang was accompanied by Sankar Malakar, the Darjeeling district (Plains) Congress President. Later, on a question put forth by a reporter during a press conference, Tamang said “The demand for Gorkhaland is around a 100-year-old demand, while it is also a sensitive demand. We respect the long-standing demand and will engage in it. We will bring together all stakeholders and look for a Constitutional solution to the issue, and we are committed to it.”

Tamang further lashed out at the BJP and said that the saffron brigade only gave “slogans” and not a constitutional solution. “The BJP even failed to define the permanent political solution (PPS) it promised,” Tamang said.

“The BJP has given nothing to Darjeeling till date and that is why Darjeeling is now looking for an alternative. We are here to provide the people in Darjeeling that alternative,” he added.

“People will vote for the Congress as the party and Darjeeling have an old relationship, as whatever the Gorkhas have got, they got it during the tenure of the Congress/UPA government at the Centre, like the Nepali language recognition, DGHC, GTA, Sixth schedule Bill,” Tamang said.

The Lok Sabha election 2024 in the Darjeeling constituency, is being held on 26 April during the second phase.
