PM says Centre close to solution of problems of Gorkhas

PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, MARCH 9, 2024 :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday the Centre was close to a solution to the problems of the Gorkha people but did not offer any elaboration.
Addressing a public meeting at the Kawakhali ground in Siliguri, he reminded the audience, however, that he was capable of achieving the most difficult feats; mentioning the abrogation of article 370of the Constitution in the process.
“BJP is always PM says Centre close to solution of problems of Gorkhas Narendra Modi on Saturday asked people assembled at Kawakhali ground to switch on their mobile torch lights as a pledge to develop India. sensitive to the challenges and problems of the Gorkhas in India,” he said.
“BJP has continuously tried to make you tension free, even now we are close to a solution. BJP will continue to support the fulfillment of your expectations,” the Prime Minister said.
“We have rescinded article 370, we have established Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. We have resolved issues that most thought were unresolvable. We are sensitive to the aspirations of the Gorkha people. We are very close to a solution.”
Thousands of people belonging to the Gorkha communities had assembled at the public meeting, expecting that the Prime Minister could declare something specific about a separate state and providing tribal status to the 11 left-out Gorkha communities.
Observers said the Prime Minister was cautious this time, avoiding any concrete remark. Earlier, the BJP had been roundly criticized in the hills for not having fulfilled promises made in the election manifesto of the party.
