Kalimpong Municipality takes charge of town water supply from PHE

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, MARCH 9, 2024 : The PHE Department has transferred to the Kalimpong Municipality the responsibility of distribution of water in the Kalimpong municipal area. 
The handing over of responsibility was completed formally at a function held at the conference hall of the Municipality on Saturday.
Kalimpong Municipality Administrator Ravi Pradhan said that now the water flowing on the road would reach the house and all the illegal tapping of water would be stopped. He appealed to everyone to support him. 
Those who did not build their water lines properly would be punished, he said. Everyone should get water and it should be done in a legal way.
He said that it would definitely take some time for the shortage of water in Kalimpong to ease. It would take about two more years for water from the Amrut 2 project complete and for water from Bhalukhola to reach the town. He said the tender for the project would be floated soon.
The PHE would also support the Municipality and help the Municipality in executing the work. 
According to the list submitted by the PHE, there were 50 employees engaged in water distribution in Kalimpong; among them two permanent employees, four daily wage workers and the rest being pay band employees. 
The Municipality would try to make all of them permanent. He would soon hold a meeting with the PHE staff. 
PHE Sabasad of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration C. B. Gurung was present on the occasion. A large number of Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha members were also present
