Foundation stones laid for916 projects in Kalimpong

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, MARCH 3, 2024 : Foundation stones were laid on Sunday for 916 projects, big and small, under Kalimpong Block - I Panchayat Samiti and 18 Gram Panchayats.

The projects have been prepared at a cost of over Rs 18 crore. The foundation stone was laid by Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha in an event held at Delo Park, Kalimpong. Among them, 72 projects were in Kalimpong-I Panchayat Samiti and 844 projects in 18 Gram Panchayats.

Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha was felicitated for bringing back the panchayat system in Darjeeling hills.

Kalimpong Block-I Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Mamta Gurung expressed gratitude, saying the panchayat system in Darjeeling hills had returned at the initiative of the Kalimpong MLA and GTAChief Anit Thapa.

Gurung said the country would develop only if the village developed. Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha had played an important role in the foundation stone laying ceremony held during the day.

She said that they were all working together to set Kalimpong Block-I on the path of development. Regional artists presented colorful cultural programmes.
