Election Commission team visits Sikkim to review poll preparedness

EOI, GANGTOK, 12 FEBRUARY 2024 : A delegation of the Election Commission of India led by Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma visited Sikkim on Sunday and Monday to review the preparedness of the election machinery in the State for the conduct of the general elections to the Lok Sabha and the Sikkim assembly, the Chief Electoral Officer of Sikkim said in a news release. 
The EC team had a meeting with enforcement agencies responsible for the monitoring of election expenditure. 
 The nodal officers were asked to strengthen the monitoring mechanism to curb the movement of cash, liquor, drugs and freebies which would be used as inducement to voters during the elections. 
Various agencies were asked to share intelligence for better cooperation of activities. Vigil should be stepped up at inter-state checkposts, they said.
Issues Like the availability of assured manpower for the conduct of elections, the availability of assured minimum facilities in the polling stations, maintenance of law and order, the scale of deployment of police personel, the enforcement of the model code of conduct were discussed in a meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police. 
The preparedness and plan of action at the district level were discussed in a meeting with all the District Collectors and Superintendents of Police such as the electoral roll and the identification of vulnerable police stations. They were asked strictly to follow the instructions of the ECI
